Friedman's Gluten-Free Eats in NYC

Friedman's Restaurant in the Edison Hotel: 228 W 47th St, New York, NY 10036

Friedman's, a classic family-owned business, offers a large variety of gluten-free eats at their six locations in New York. Battery Park, Chelsea, Hell's Kitchen, Herald Square on 31st, Edison Hotel on 47th, 72nd Street, and West End — endless eats spread all around Manhattan, that is constantly expanding.

Friedman's offers a homey feel, as well as an excellent selection of GF-friendly eats, as anything on their menu can be made accessible. We tried spinach and artichoke dip, as well as their fish and chips. Tomato soup (not pictured) was my selection the first time I had eaten at Friedman's back in Aug. Aside from that, here is their current menu at the Edison Hotel location:

Spinach and Artichoke Dip:

Corn tortilla chips, creamy dip, crunchy topping: wonderful. Spinach and artichoke dip is one menu item that is always added to my bill each and every time I see a GF option available, and Friedman's version has reached the top of my list. To compare, pre-Celiac Paige was obsessed with TGIFriday's variation of this dip, until I found out they use flour as a thickener (the hard way). Friedman's dip is highly comparable, and adds for endless delight as a delicious appetizer. 10/10 would recommend.

Fish and Chips:

Beer battered white fish served with herb french-fries and coleslaw. I didn't think I was capable to engulf an entire fried fish in under ten minutes, but apparently it is possible. I could go on for hours about this. The fries were seasoned to perfection, coleslaw was creamy, and the fish was a perfectly crisped. Tartar sauce, also, had a great balance of flavor, and paired well with the white fish (which was beautifully cooked under the breading). Friedman's... that is two new favorites in one post, a new record.

Aside from loving their food, Friedman's also takes great measure to ensure comfort on gluten-free visitors through their inclusive labelling and knowledgeable staff. This is the 'coding' that is used to identify GF dishes aside from others: GF+ suggests that the dish can be made gluten-free, and a green GF symbol suggests that the item is naturally gluten-free.

Although Friedman's isn't an entirely gluten-free establishment, their staff is well informed and understanding of dietary restrictions, from my experiences. Breakfast, lunch, and dinner... Friedman's has it all (all around the city).
